How to Brew Your Kova Kombucha SCOBY
With Kova Kombucha’s SCOBY, brewing kombucha at home is simple! Follow our step-by-step guide below to create your own refreshing kombucha.
Gather Your Ingredients
• 7 cups spring or reverse osmosis water
• 4 black tea bags
• 1/2 cup sugar
• 1 Kova SCOBY and starter liquid
Brew Your Sweet Tea
Boil the water, add tea bags, and dissolve the sugar. Allow the tea to cool to room temperature.
Prepare Your Fermenter
Pour the sweet tea into at least a half-gallon glass jar, then add your Kova SCOBY with the starter liquid provided.
Cover and Ferment
Cover with a breathable cloth (we like t-shirts or pillowcases) and secure with a rubberband to allow airflow while keeping contaminants out. Let sit for 10 days, taste-testing daily after 7 days to find your preferred flavor.
Bottle and Enjoy!
Set aside the SCOBY and some liquid, pour kombucha into glass bottles, and refrigerate. Your SCOBY is ready to start your next batch! If you enjoy a fizzier kombucha, try adding a little fruit juice before bottling and refrigerating. Serve cold for best results.
